The Horses’ Poster has gone up all over Triflora.

It is making a big difference. Nobody much had realised what was happening to the Horses. Now that they do, everyone is shocked. They don’t expect to see anything cruel in Triflora. Poppy has sent her People out to see what’s happening and sure enough, first thing they saw on the edge of the Village were these three men. Just look at them. Smoking cigars and looking bossy. 

They have whips in their hands to hit the Horses.

They have boots with hard heels to kick the Horses in the side.

Poppy’s People put an end to THAT ! 

Riding a Horse with boots and a whip is NO WAY TO TRAVEL!

Travelling around Triflora is not always easy – but that is NO excuse to take advantage of anyone else.

TRAVELLING IN TRIFLORA.

Red Fox gets around very well. He moves quickly and quietly. He can even jump from rock to rock to cross a creek – but this creek is at the rapids and it looks like Red will not be able to jump far enough to cross it. He will need to find another way to go.	Red is looking for another way around the creek. He is moving very sneakily. There is no reason for him to move sneakily. Its just what Foxes seem to do.
	Enrico travels on all four of his legs. He is very big indeed and can make his way through all kinds of country. Emma Jane Lafitte is very small. She has only two legs and Enrico feels very sorry for her. So, whenever he sees Emma Jane Lafitte trying to walk someplace, Enrico starts to smile, reaches down with his trunk and picks her up by her ponytail. “ I do NOT want to travel in your trunk! Put me down!”
	Ships and boats are used for a lot of travelling in Triflora. They are a most interesting way to travel and many of the Sailors are interesting as well. Except for the Buccaneers. A Buccaneer is a type of pirate. They have a tendency to swashbuckle. That means that they swagger and brag and tell very long and untrue stories about their adventures. I would rather travel on the back of a Shark than travel with a Buccaneer. They SHOW OFF.
Something will have to be done about these 3 Men with Whips. They are making Travel in Triflora VERY unpleasant.	Dragons, of course, travel mostly by flying. Just the other day, one of Rose’s Dragon Messengers came into the Village to let Poppy know that Rose would be over for Dinner that night. Well – he got to the edge of the Village and started walking because he is very polite and doesn’t like flapping his way over the tops of People’s houses.  Guess who he met? The same 3 Men who had been riding the Horses. They were dressed in different clothes and they were not smoking their cigars but they still had their whips. They started flicking them at Rose’s Messenger. Boy, is she going to be MAD ?
	SKIRTS. One way of travelling which you don’t always see in the World Up Top, is THE SKIRT. Triflora has enough magic breezes to lift people off the ground and carry them along with the wind beneath their skirts. The Skirt has to be the right skirt  and the Person wearing the Skirt needs to know what he or she is doing. Then it is a very moving experience.
Old Mother Taffy dressed to travel. She has put a scrunchie snood on her hat and is wearing lace gloves. Old Mother Taffy has her sister’s glasses on and can’t see straight at all. NO TRAVEL FOR YOU, TAFFY.	OLD WITCHES. Witches are experts at witchery and can travel anyway they please although they use their broomsticks most of the time because it looks better. People like to see them on Broomsticks. When it comes to the Old Witches in the Old Witches’ Home, then travelling becomes a problem because their magic is slipping. Not only slipping but slopping about a bit as well. There are NO brooms allowed in the Home. None at all.  An old witch on a broom is not safe travelling.

BIRDS AND OTHER BEINGS IN THE 3rd TOWER

Up on the 3rd Tower in the Perfumed Garden, the Tiny, Tiny birds are learning to fly.  Its always a bit of a worry for the grown-ups. They worry that the Tin, Tiny Birds will fly off the edge and fall to the ground. They worry about all sorts of things when their children begin to fly.

The Grownup birds yabber yabber yabber, telling the children how to do it.

The Grownup Birds chitter chitter chitter telling them things they must not do.

There is really no need to worry at all.

The Spiders have woven silken nets  all around the Tower Top and no Tiny Tony Bird has ever fallen over the edge.

Sometimes you can hear the tip tip tap tap of the baby woodpeckers being taught to peck. The Woodpeckers make their own Music. Its called Peckussion.

Trouble  really dislikes Peckussion and that’s a good thing for Triflora.  When the Peckers start into pecking, the tip tap goes right through the ground and under the ice and into the Cave of Trouble. She HATES the sound of it. She hates  the sound even more when the Tiny Peckers are learning to peck.

Down in the Garden amongst the Sheep, Amelia is digging a well. Amelia is very tiny indeed. Noone knows what kind of animal she is and sometimes her enormous eyes look sad. She says she is not lonesome but she looks lonely to me.

Amelia likes living in the 3rd Tower. She feels safe there. She has her own room and the food is just lovely. The only thing Amelia is not quite happy about is the Water.

All the water in Trifloran wells is crystal and sweet.

All the water in Trifloran wells is good for you.

But maybe not for Amelia.  She is looking for something different and only she knows what it is.  We think its something to do with her Bath because she wears her bath robe all the time, even when she is digging.

The Tower Photographer was at 3rd Tower today. Everyone except for Amelia was dressed very smartly and hair and fur and feathers were brushed.

The tiny Beings of the 3rd Tower are very excited. They are planning to hang photographs along the corridors.

Tiny Beings are not always noticed by bigger Beings. Just wait until these photos come back. The Tiny Beings have ordered BLOWUPS and ENLARGEMENTS to give to their Friends in Triflora.

For sure, they will be noticed then.

 

The Tiny Beings of the Tower are very proud of being so small but some of them have had  terrible frights out there in Triflora. Gustaf the Ghost Rabbit has almost been trodden on by 4329 people. His nerves are shattered.  He refused to go in the photo and he says he will NEVER leave the Tower again.

Fulmer Xenophon is a different matter. Fulmer doesn’t let his size stop him from trying everything. He is thinking of going across to live on Cat and Fiddle Island even though he is only as big as an ordinary Trifloran Cat’s clawnail.

Fulmer Xenophon is one courageous pussycat.

HORSING AROUND

The Horses of Triflora have 4 legs. Some of the 2 legged Beings think they can just ride on the Horses’ Backs because of this.

I can tell you this. The Horses are not amused. 

“Just because we have 4 legs and are amazingly strong and smart – well, that does not mean that any old Being can come along and use us as if we were  public transport!”

Things are much more polite over at Nerissa’s well. Nobody would even think of just jumping onto the back of a SeaHorse and going for a ride.

When people come to visit, they bring their best manners with them. 

Mac McNeil from the Highlands wears his finest clothes when he comes to Nerissa’s. He polishes his wings. He brushes his hair. And he BOWS a lot.

He does get nervous because some of the Mer People do not wear many clothes and up in the Highlands where he comes from, everyone wears plenty of clothes because its COLD.

Mac McNeil is especially polite when he sees Pechera. Pechera has settled down a lot lately and doesn’t mind doing all the important work she has to do.But she still likes the ordinary life best of all.

Mac McNeil has helped her a lot. Mac met Pechera when she was flying back from the Moon and he was flying about playing his bagpipes. Mac’s mother had told him that his playing sounded like a wolf howling at the moon. He thought that sounded rather wonderful so he took to flying about when the Moon was shining and playing his Pipes. The Highland Faeries are a wee bit unusual.

Well. On the night I was talking about, Pechera heard the noise of his ‘music’ while she was flying back from the Moon, conked out and crashed right into Mac McNeil. It gave him rather a fright but he dropped his Pipes and managed to catch her before she tumbled to the ground. Mac gently flew her down to the ground and when she woke they had  a rather interesting conversation about almost everything they could think of. It turned out that both of them had important work to do.

But it also turned out that BOTH of them actually liked the ORDINARY LIFE best of all. They visit quite often now.

And one thing they never ever do, is jump onto the back of a horse and expect to be taken wherever they want to go.

The Horses have put this Poster up all around Triflora. It shows all the Body Parts of a typical Triflorian Horse.

The Horses hope it will make them seem more real to other Beings.

This is  their new motto ;

THE LIGHT FAMILY

Down at the River near the Village, not far from the Ferry Wharf is a beautiful house. It is made from mud brick and sea shells and brightly coloured jewels.

There is a Mother and a Father and a Boy and a Girl living there. It is a very important house in Triflora because the Girl is the Keeper of the Chooks and Ducks and all the Poultry – even the Golden Goose. Her name is Dolly. The Boy is a Daring Adventurer and a Thinker. He is called Fella. The Mumma can do many things. She mixes medicines and she brings babies into Triflora. She loves wool and beautiful yarn and can make clothes and scarfs and most importantly – Mumma Kath makes HATS.  One day, I shall tell you more about her hats. The Dadda is the Maker and Keeper of the Lights. Lights are almost as important in a Fairy World as Music is. Their house is called the Light House.

Dadda Sincas is also a Fireman. The Firemen are very well trained and they handle a lot of the emergencies that come up. All the Firemen carry alarms that tell them when there is a Fire and if the alarm goes off – those Firemen are out of there in a moment!

Sincas has 9,238,000 ideas about Lights. He can’t make that many lights by himself.  He needs Helpers.

And he does have some very good Helpers.

BUT – some of them DRINK. They drink HUGE barrels of interesting drinks. These are the Rascally Rogues.

They think they make better lights when they drink a Barrel of Grog – but they don’t. They make weird things.

Light Makers can be very peculiar indeed.

 

Dolly has a kitchen of her very own. She wears an apron when she is cooking and asks her friends over for a meal.

Dolly takes care of the animals. She has 16 kinds of Chooks, 11 types of ducks and many more.

The Golden Goose lives right in the middle of Dolly’s yard. She is safe there. Noone else knows that the eggs she lays are Golden.

WANDERERS FROM THE WANDERING DESERT

It’s a strange place, the Wandering Desert. It moves about. When Nana wants a very private holiday from things, she goes to the Wandering Desert. She is very fond of CAMELS. Vanessa, the Vanishing Camel, has known Nana for 100 of years. There isn’t much left of Vanessa these days but there is still enough to give her old friend a ride into the Desert.

The only way to get into the Wandering Desert is on the back of a Camel.  People have tried to find it by themselves but they never do find it.

Most people think its someplace beyond the 3rd Island – but that is just a guess.

Wizzy thinks that the Desert is in another dimension altogether. He has never been there because he doesn’t want to ride on a flying Camel – or on a vanishing Camel.

Dadda Jai has been there once when the Desert dwellers needed some very special building done. D.J. can build almost anything.  He came home with a golden bracelet.

Sometimes Nana takes the 3 girls to the Desert and they have the best fun. The Oasis in the Middle looks just like 3rd Island and it is perfect for swimming and sunning and drinking coconut milk.

Life in the Desert is very INTERESTING. There are storytellers and musicians and plenty of dancing. Saffron and Rose and Poppy LOVE their holidays. Saffron wears the Gold Bracelet  her father brought back and they all wear clothes of wonderful colours and plenty of jewellery. They dance and dance and dance till they’re dizzy and their hair is whirling and swirling.

They eat a lot of grapes in the desert they listen VERY carefully to the stories.

Wanderers know things. They see and hear things. They can tell you things.

When a whole desert wanders, then even the sand can tell you things. 

When a whole desert wanders, then even the waters in the Oasis can tell you things. Sometimes.  people in the Wandering Desert ask a question and noone knows the answer.

Then The Storyteller goes out to the Bridge and asks the Waters for an answer. He can almost always understand what the Waters say.

One of Nana’s friends, Nana Dorise, has been wandering in the Wandering Desert for 40 years. She went there to ask the Storyteller for advice but the Camel Ride freaked her out so much that she will not get on a Camel so that she can go back home.

She won’t even go near a camel.

Nana Dorice HATES the heat and the Wandering Desert is very hot.

She has become pretty good friends with the Storyteller. He tries to tell her that she won’t get home without a Camel’s help but she thinks that if she keeps wandering, she will eventually find a way back home. 

In the Meantime, Nana Dorice roams all over the desert. She doesn’t even know that the Bactrian Camel is following her around and making sure she is safe.  The Bactrian Camel LIKES Dorice. He makes sure there is food and water I the place she goes to and that the Sand where she sleeps is soft and snug. The Bactrian Camel doesn’t let anyone else ride him.  He thinks that if he just follows Nana Dorice around taking good care of her, that one day she will like him too.

Then he will be able to help her go back home again.

The things we wear

Here in Triflora, there are so many Beings and so many places that all kinds of clothes and shoes are needed. Some are woven from spider silk. Some are made from the fine cottons of the Garden. Some are spun from seaweeds and coral threads.

Down here in Triflora, Beings do all kinds of things. They fly and they walk on their hands and they live deep under the Sea. It is very important that their clothes are just right for whatever it is that they are doing.

Here are a few of the things we wear and use in Triflora.

Nana does not like SUITS. She tried to get them banned from Triflora but too many people wanted to keep wearing SUITS and they kept right on wearing them no matter what she said. The best place to get a suit is from STANLEY STANHOPE.  He knows just what a suit needs to be like and tailors them specially for you. This is his motto: SUITS THAT SUIT YOU.  Stanley Stanhope once dressed the Lions of Triflora. That was before they grew fur of their own.  Now he simply makes suits but he still uses a Lion in his advertisements.
Clowns’ Clothing is also made by the 4 Grasshoppers. Clowns need Tough clothing too and most clowns have soft hearts.	The 4 Grasshoppers get their strength from Oats.  They need strength because they make almost all the safety clothing for the Insects of Triflora. Here they are, dressed in their own Golden Hopper Suits. Insects usually have very soft bodies and the 4 Grasshoppers make Strong Clothing for Soft Hearts.
	The 4 Grasshoppers ONLY make clothes for Insects and Clowns. They will not make clothes for anyone else at all. All the rest of the Circus clothes are made by the CLOWNS. A clown will never make his or her own clothes but they certainly make great clothes  for the other Circus People. Here is their motto:   KLOWNS’ KLOTHES FOR KLASSY KLOBBER.

FLYING ABOUT TRIFLORA.

Nana is taking a Fly Around to see who else is up in the Air.

The 3 Minstrel Birds and the Mad Mozzie from Mad Island.

SIMON  AND THE DRAGON BIRD FLYING TOO CLOSE TO TROUBLE

Oh! What bad manners! Olaf Jacobson knows very well that he cannot fly on someone else’s tail feathers.

Oh no! Charmaginia is at it again. We have told her that the girl does not want to be a witch. We have told her that the girl is no good at being a witch. We have told her not to tie Charmaine to her broomstick and not to scare her half to death. Some people are not meant for flying.

Well, there goes Raymond, the Shoemaker. Look at that flying ! He said he could make the perfect flying shoes and there he is. There he is. Well done, Raymond.  You fly like a bird!

Here comes the  Star Spreader. He carries a basket filled with starlets and stardust and he sprinkles them all across the sky.     The Moon waits till the Star Spreader has flown the Night Skies and them comes smiling out to shine all over Triflora.

LESSONS FROM AN IMPCHKIN

A little Little Boy by the name of Toby took himself off one day from the Village and managed to lose himself in the Impchkin Forest.

Now, Toby was known to complain.

He complained about almost everything.

He complained almost all the time.

He complained to everyone that he met.

He had taken himself off from the Village because he didn’t like his breakfast. He had  complained to Mumma Jo and Mad O’Brian about it and they just said;

“GET LOST, TOBY!” 

He was very shocked and went to complain to Dadda Jai and Mumma Kate but he took one look at their irritated faces and decided to go and get lost instead. “

That’s just what he did. He got himself really lost. He thought someone would come looking for him but nobody did.  He kept complaining to himself about the people he had to live with and the food he had to eat. Then he started to complain to himself about being lost, and tired, and hungry and thirsty. 

When it started to get dark and he found himself in the middle of a Forest, he really started to whinge and whine. He was also rather afraid.

Round about then he saw a light coming towards him.

“ Get up, Toby the Growler, and follow me!”

Toby was about to complain about being called a Growler but he thought better of it. He didn’t know any other way to get out of the Forest so he took a closer look at the Light. It was being held by a tiny little Man. Impchkin Ian was his name. He was crooked and he had a crooked walking stick and his bottom lip stuck out.

“ Get up, Toby the Growler, and follow me!

I will show you some Beings who really do have something to complain about but they don’t whinge like you.”

WHEN THINGS SEEM TOUGH AND TIMES ARE ROUGH, REMEMBER THAT IT COULD BE WORSE.

BEINGS WITH SERIOUS PROBLEMS.
Zretazoola found a head. The head was still alive and talking. Zretazoola really didn’t know what to do with a Head. Now, that’s a REAL problem.	The Goat, the Chicken and the Parrot have found a Fallen Idol. That’s the little fella lying on the Ground. They have tried to stand the Fallen Idol up but it just won’t stay up. That’s a real problem.
Lavinia and Louisa have a little Cottage in the Village. Everything looks pretty good at their place until you meet Albertina. Albertina is their sister. Unfortunately, she is becoming more and more like a cat as she grows older. She was warned when she was little to stop being so Catty ( so mean and nasty to other people) but she would not stop. Now the only thing that’s really left of the old Albertina is her voice. Problem is – she still hasn’t learned her lesson. She is still Catty to people. Her sisters try to keep out of her way because she says such mean things to them and leaves fur all over the furniture. She is a big Problem for her sisters. Any REAL Cat would be ashamed to speak or behave the way Albertina does.	Charmaine truly has a problem. She’s not complaining about it but that could be because she is unconscious. Charmaine is the daughter of a Witch. Charmaine is supposed to be a witch, herself but she HATES witchery. She’s afraid of flying broomsticks and she doesn’t know one single magic spell. Her mother, Charmaginia, STILL wants Charmaine to be a witch and she will not stop trying to teach her how to be one. Charmaine hates being tied to her mother’s broomstick. She almost always passes out.  When two people want two very different things, then you really have problems.
The MerryMen have a new neighbour.  Take a look at that for a neighbour when you’re feeling sorry for yourself.	The Neighbour is huge and he has a good heart. He is what we call”Helpful”. The problem is that his help always goes wrong. He treads on people without meaning to. And not just on their toes. He gives people a lift – but not to where they want to go.

Impchkin Ian showed Toby some Beings with Problems. Then he took him to his treehouse in the Impchkin Forest and made him a bed and something to eat.

“No growling tonight, Toby! You have lessons to learn tomorrow.”

THE ICE MAIDEN and the ICE GIRLS.

 

Way up on the Ice, where most things are white, lives an extremely dangerous Being – THE ICE MAIDEN.

She is a close friend  of Trouble and really does not seem to have a warm place anywhere in her whole body or soul.

Way up on the Ice, where most things are white, live some very warm-hearted Beings – the ICE GIRLS. 

The Ice Girls are friends of Poppy and Rose and Saffron. They are clever and good.

Its easy to get them mixed up at first but MAKE NO MISTAKE ! The Ice Maiden is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ICE MAIDEN AND AN ICE GIRL.

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS	NOT DANGEROUS AT ALL
There is only ONE Ice Maiden.	There are a lot of Ice Girls.
She is very beautiful.	They are very beautiful.
She lives alone in a cave in the Ice	They live together in a castle ON the Ice with lots of other Beings.
She acts very friendly and kind at first. Then she turns nasty. She is very cold blooded.	They act rather unfriendly at first. If they like you, they would do anything for you.  They are very warm- hearted.
She has  a tattoo on the bottom of her left foot. It says  “I.M.”	Ice Girls have tattoos on the bottoms  of their right feet. Their Tatts say “ I.G. “
When she gets angry she goes blue in the face and starts to melt.	When they get angry,they go red in the face.
When she is sad, she looks for someone to hurt. Tears of Ice freeze on her cheeks.	When they are sad, they hug one another and cry warm salty tears.
The Ice Maiden eats live fishes and crabs and other creatures from the Sea. She eats them while they are still wiggling and screaming for help.	The Ice Girls drink Iced Water and only eat Icy Poles made from fruit of of the Tasty Forest on 3rd Island.

THOMAS THOMASON DANCES ON

Thomas Thomason thinks that he is very unlucky to have Tamara Thomason for his sister but he just doesn’t know how bad it could be.

‘Erbert Anderson has a sister and his sister is another Umbrella Girl. Her name is ‘Elspeth.

The Umbrella Girls just cannot be separated from their umbrellas.

Elspeth has a much nastier personality than Tamara and Elspeth uses her Brolly to whack ‘Erbert over the head.

At least Tamara only uses her umbrella for dancing. Thomas has included her Picnic Dance in his new SPECTACULAR. 

Tom wrote it after the 3 Ice Bears almost let Trouble loose in Triflora. Then he decided to create a few more dances about things that had been happening in Triflora.

NEW DANCES CREATED BY THOMAS THOMASON FOR HIS BEARS ON ICE SPECTACULAR.

BEARS ON ICE.

Chantelle Oiseau is dancing the part of Little Louette. There was NO Little Louette on the ice with the bears but Thomas doesn’t let that stop him.

He calls it ARTISTIC LICENCE. That means he can say someone was there when they were not there at all.

Artistic Licence means that Thomas can say someone was not there when they were.

Marsha May McNeil was there on the Ice and she was a great help but Thomas doesn’t like Marsha May McNeil very much so he doesn’t mention her at all.

He just talks about Chantelle Oiseau. Chantelle will be dancing on ice for the Spectacular. I must admit that she is rather good at it. She can even dance on thin ice. Without crashing through into deep dark waters. Not everyone could do that !

Thomas Thomason puts a lot of thought into his dances. He lives in a white house with white tiled floors. He dances whenever he moves. Sometimes he sits on the White Wall which overlooks Triple Bay and breathes in the perfume of the Gardens and just dreams of the next dance.

He is quite happy thinking about dances and the costumes.

But he is not so happy when he is thinking about the Dancers he will need.

Thomas has a very good relationship with his feet but he doesn’t handle other people very well at all. That could be a problem with a Dance Spectacular as big as this one.

The Pixies are writing the invitations and making the posters. They twinkle and sparkle and get on well with T.T. because they dance almost everywhere they go.

They fly and laugh and have the most exquisite handwriting I have ever seen ( as well as a collection of Fonts bigger than Luc Devroye’s. )

One of the Dancers who worries Thomas is known by the name of Nimff. She worries Thomas because she will NOT dance with her clothes on. He has tried to tell her that his Dance is about ICE but Nimff doesn’t care. 

Thomas asks Nimff to dance in his Spectacular because her dancing IS spectacular. He had a dress made for her that was so light it floated but she tore it off as she danced. She always did that.

Now, he has told her that she must stay behind the paper trees and have her long hair hanging way down past her bottom. Nimff is happy with that but Thomas Thomason is a little worried. All in all, he prefers Chantelle Oiseau but he needs a dancer to be Trouble and Nimff is certainly Trouble!

Mrs Thomason wove the spider silk into the dress for Nimff. She was not amused to see it all torn and thrown on the ground.

Mrs Thomason is  a bit scarey when she is ‘not amused’. Nimff has not met her yet but I think Nimff is in for a shock.

Mrs T. wears a LOT of clothes. She has never ever been seen without clothes on. They say that she even has her bath with her clothes on.

I do not think she will be pleased with Nimff’s bare bottom.

Mrs Thomason spins the Yarn for all the Dance outfits so she is pretty busy at the moment. For such a mean tempered woman, she does make beautiful Yarn.

Thomas has sent Valentino to offer the Mincing Mice a part in his Dance Spectacular.

But they will not come out of their Hole.

There is no way we are dancing on ice!”

We all know there were no mice on the ice but T.T. likes to have the Mincers do at least one dance. Not this time. Nothing will change their minds and they won’t come out of their hole.

The Little Thomasons think Tom is a bit of a twerp but they like dancing and they like music so he tries each new dance out on them.   Sometimes they laugh. Sometimes they throw plates at him. Once, the littlest one vomited. Thomas reckons that if he can please his brothers and sisters, he can please anyone!

Tamara says that this will be the very best concert Thomas has put on – EVER. She has ice skates for her Umbrella Dance and she is looking for the Dancing, Singing  Small Dog who saved the day. If she can’t find a dancing dog soon, she will have to find a dancer and dress them up in a dog’s outfit.

Thomas doesn’t like the idea of that but Tamara is getting sick of checking out dogs trying to dance.

For some reason, the little Thomasons  think that Tamara is the greatest dancer in all of Triflora. They have never vomited when she is dancing.  Thomas does not understand it at all !

THOMAS THOMASON–THE DANCER

THE RIVER DANCERS.

Have you ever seen Thomas Thomason dance?

He is one of the most amazing dancers in all of Triflora. He dances with the River People these days but he has always been on those two feet and nodding his head to the music.  When he was a baby he had little fat legs and wore dresses most of the time. He didn’t talk. He just ‘Danced”.  I was going to get Thomas to talk to you tonight but he is TIRED – Dancers do get tired , you know.

Thomas Thomason’s big sister is also a very good dancer. Her name is Tamara Thomason. She doesn’t dance as well as Thomas – mostly because she will not ever dance without her umbrella.

Thomas Thomason is not a baby anymore. He is 10 years old. He invents his own dances and writes his own music.

Sometimes he lets Tamara dance with her umbrella – but not very often.

Thomas Thomason likes to look very smart for his dancing. He has invented a dance about a fancy picnic. Thomas has a black suit to wear for his dance and a pair of black tap shoes which are so comfortable that its almost like dancing bare-footed with stones glued to the bottom of your feet.

Thomas stands with the straightest back I have ever seen.

For his Picnic Dance he carries a basket filled with beautiful food which he throws to the audience.

Tamara is allowed to dance in the Picnic Dance because an umbrella is a good idea at a Picnic.

THE ICE BEARS STOP SINGING

Three of the Critters who didn’t come to the Party for No Reason At All are the 3 Ice Bears. The Ice Bears are happiest at home in the Frozen places. They lie around on the Ice and swim deep in the icy waters. The Ice Bears don’t really think they need help from anyone but this time – THEY DO.

They can hardly sit up. Their tongues are swelling up in their mouths. They are so hot that even the ice is not cooling them down.  This time they DO need help. 

It was fortunate for the 3 Ice Bears that the White Peacock had been watching them for quite a while.  He had been sent by the Ice Girls because they had not heard ANY music from the Bears for days and days.

Now you all know that TROUBLE is just waiting for the Music to stop. Trouble is down underneath Triflora in a very horrible cave.

Just waiting. Just listening. Just planning .

Trouble is always looking for a way to come up top again and she can get up to some rather nasty tricks to do that.

One day the little grey fishes of the Ice brought a message down to Trouble. The Ice Bears were not singing. They were not practising their music at all. The Ice Bears have NEVER really been keen on Music. They only did it because they had been told about Trouble. It doesn’t work very well when you don’t LIKE Music and the Bears worked out an idea between the 3 of them.

It wasn’t a very good idea. It was the kind of idea people think up when they don’t want to do something. It was one of those ideas when you want to stop doing what :THEY” have told you to.

This was their idea  “ We will not do Music anymore. They told us to! But we don’t have to. Trouble is not going to come and bother us because we are big and strong and have very ferocious faces and huge claws. So we will not sing anymore and we will not play any instruments and we will be fine. We will not bother Trouble and Trouble will not bother us.”

The White Peacock heard them talking about their idea. “Oh no! This is going to mean Trouble.”

Sure enough, Trouble was just under the Bears’ IceBerg and she had a fire blazing down there.  The Ice Bears were so hot they couldn’t move. Trouble sprinkled three poisons onto her fire and the poisonous smoke sneaked up through the cracks and into the eyes and noses and mouths of the Ice Bears.

White Peacock sent Madriel Peacock straight to the Ice Castle to tell them about the Bears’ IDEA.  The Girls were pretty angry but not surprised. They got the Boats ready and set out for the Bears’ Iceberg.

Now the White Peacock is no singer. If you have ever heard a peacock, you will know what I mean.  But he KNEW that Music was the only thing that would send Trouble away from fire and back down into the Nether Regions where she dwelt.

“Well, I only have to make music until the ice girls get here. I can do that! I hope I can do that!”

White Peacock had no instrument with him and so he had to SING. The more he sang, the hotter it got and the more poisonous the smoke became. White Peacock made the sort of noise that Trouble just loves.

“ Oh no! The Ice girls will never get here in time. The more I sing the closer Trouble is coming.”

THE WANDERING MINSTREL DOG.

The Dog with the Silver Voice.

Imagine how pleased he was when 2 paws and a little nose poked up over the edge of the Berg and a small mouth opened with the most beautiful song a small could sing. After justa few words and that silvery voice, the water began to cool, the ice froze hard again, the bears began to breathe easily and could almost sit up. Trouble is SO allergic to beautiful music that she had shrivelled and wiggled and slid back into her Cave.

The Ice Girls will be giving those 3 Ice Bears some music lessons as soon as they arrive.

The Ice Girls will also be giving White Peacock an instrument so that he doesn’t invite Trouble in again with that truly terrible voice of his.

And the Ice Girls will be giving the little dog anything that he wants. Well done, Little Dog! You have saved the bears and you have saved the Ice Lands.

The Wandering Minstrel Dog and Marsha May McNeil travel all over Triflora, singing and playing. They say they will stay a little while on the Ice Berg until the Bears are really well again.

IN THE PERFUMED GARDEN ON THE ROOF OF THE 3rd TOWER

Nana loves Birds. Wizzy loves birds. The birds spend a lot of time in the Towers. Wizzy spends an hour every morning making special breakfasts for them. And  they bring Nana all manner of news.

However, on the roof of the 3rd Tower is the best place for a Bird Party. The birds come there for weddings and funerals and birthdays and just for plain fun.

The Bird Choir practises there. Once a week.

There is quite a garden up on top as well and a lake for the Birds that like the Water.

 

I don’t think I have told you about the 3rd Tower.

It’s a very tiny tower. Well – it seems tiny because it is the Tower of the Tiniest Beings in all of Triflora. Sometimes, little People and little Beings need a place of their very own.

The 3rd Tower tinkles with tiny laughter and shimmers with wee little fairy people. They call it the Miniature Tower and then they laugh because it doesn’t seem miniature to them at all. It fits them perfectly.

One of the very best things about the 3rd Tower is the COLOUR. Most towers are beautiful, but kind of stoney and grey. Some Towers are very scarey and others are absolutely dangerous.

The 3rd Tower is the only one which is truly colourful.

The Guardians of the 3rd Tower are the Sheep. Perhaps you don’t think Sheep make very Good Guardians. Sheep don’t seem to be very tough or very mean or even very clever.

But the Sheep are perfect for the Miniature Tower. They wander around eating grass and looking peaceful.

Nobody asks them why they are there.

Nobody thinks a Sheep is guarding something as precious as the Miniature Castle.

Creatures trust Sheep.

Everyone looks at a Sheep and thinks

“I am cleverer and smarter than that Sheep. I could NEVER be tricked by a Sheep”

Well, let me tell you, these are smart and clever Sheep and they can trick most people.

It makes them excellent Guardians for the Tiny 3rd Tower.

Now, when you hear of anyone or anything going into the Miniature Tower, please do remember that they are truly tiny.

Just look at the wee little Pig catching the wreath of flowers. He is only as big as an eyelash.

MERMAIDS AND SAILORS AND THE PERFUMED SEA

TAKING THE FERRY TO POPPY’S PLACE FOR LUNCH

CAT and FIDDLE Island is now a wonderful place to live. Lili Pilli has her cottage and the Tinykins are all over the place. The Cats are as happy as  cats can be – and that means that they are VERY happy indeed.

On the edge of Cat and Fiddle Island, the edge closest to the Perfumed Sea, a special Home has been built. It is called RUO EMOH. It is a Home for the Lonely Ones. Each Lonely person has a beautiful room and there are plenty of places to sit and make friends and smell the perfumes coming in from the Sea.

It is very important that Lonely People find a Home where they are safe and happy.

Some of the Beings that come to RUO EMOH are simply lost and just need a place to stay awhile till they find our how to go Home again.

Some of the Beings who come to RUO EMOH just don’t have anywhere else to go and they can stay forever.

Some of the Beings who come to RUO EMOH are lonely and just need some Friendship. RUO EMOH is a good place to make Friends and some of those friendships are quite unusual!

Jovial John and Wallace Wolf are taking the Ferry to Poppy’s Place for lunch. Once upon a time they would not have spoken one word to one another but now they go to lunch every day.  It is a fine friendship.

When Lonely People first come to RUO EMOH, they are sometimes sad. Some of them have been lonely for a long, long time.  Sometimes, they just sit in a chair and look at the floor.

They don’t want to eat and they don’t want to talk to anyone. They just sit there.

It takes a while before the Perfume smells come in from the Sea and make them fell a bit better.

It takes a while till the Music starts to make them feel safe and happy.

 

Sometimes, the Lonely People stay in their pyjamas all day and just sit in their rooms looking out the window.

The Lonely People see Jovial John and Wallace Wolf going out for lunch and they can’t even imagine having a friend like that.

They can’t imagine being so happy.

They can’t imagine wearing such good clothes or such big smiles.

LilliPilli knows what it feels like to have no Home of your very own.

LilliPilli doesn’t BOTHER the Lonely People. She doesn’t BOTHER them. She just smiles. She wears her pretty clothes and paints colours on the flowers.

She plays the Fiddle and she sings while she is working in the Garden.

It makes Lonely People very curious to see happy people with friends.

LilliPilli is VERY good at making people CURIOUS!

 

One of the best signs that someone is feeling at Home in RUO EMOH is when they start to talk to other people. Hallina has been there for months and months and still has not spoken one single word. Some of the people think they should try to MAKE her talk, but most of them know that gentleness and kindness are the best things. So they SMILE at her. And they leave flowers at her door.

Now she has started to walk in the Garden with a big basket and a lovely hat. She has not spoken one word yet – but we are pretty sure that she has smiled once or twice and Jenny Wren thinks that she heard her singing a little song while she was picking flowers. We think that Hallina will soon be making friends and going to Poppy’s Place for lunch.

Arnie came to RUO EMOH from the Forest. He says he is 724 years old but he only looks about 6 years old. He likes to eat berries. We have shown him other places where he could live with children but he says “I am NOT a child! I am staying here!” Buttercup is a complete mystery. She doesn’t remember where she came from and we found her sitting on the doorstep one morning.	Neddy and Roddy. Freddy and Noddy. These 4 Friends spend their days attacking windmills which would upset Pearl very much if she could see them.

The Rhubarb Kids and the Oriole.	Old Man Turnip and Young Onion. Some vegetables just aren’t as popular as others but there is a home for them here.

TRIPLE BAY No 3: 3rd ISLAND

As you know, there are three islands in Triple Bay.

Mad Island is quite close to the Village and Mad O’Brian is building his Tower there – with some help. Mad Island is protected by Wizard Magic but behind that Magic it’s a pretty easy place to get to. IF Mad O’Brian wants you there.

Cat and Fiddle Island is just a ferry trip away from the Village and its protected by Music and Cats. Its easy to get to. Ferries run most of the time and as long as your heart is good and pure, you are welcome.

The 3rd Island is far more mysterious. I think that the Unfound Sea is somewhere past the 3rd Island. The Island has some cliffs and waterfalls and the waters beside it run very deep and very strange. Each time that I see a ship or a boat head out to the 3rd Island, I feel a little nervous. They seem to simply vanish.

The 3rd Island is so mysterious that it doesn’t even have a name that we know of.

Don’t tell anyone ! I have been to the 3rd Island. It is one of the most beautiful places in all of Triflora. The Mermaids sit on the Rocks and tell Mermaid stories to the 3 Sirens. The Mermaids know more about the 3rd Island than anyone else does.

Noone on 3rd Island wears many clothes. Lots of Beings wear no clothes at all. It doesn’t get cold there – ever. Amazing fruits grow on the Island and the water from the Waterfalls is PERFECT ! Perfect to drink. Perfect to swim in.  Perfect for just about everything.

I can always tell when someone has been on the 3rd Island by their Hair and the sparkle in their eyes.  It does wonderful things , the water on 3rd Island does.

From the very top of the cliffs of the Island, you can see the Triple Bay and then out to Sea. The water from Saffy’s shack in the world up above, comes into Triflora through its little water straw, down the deep well in the Garden and  into the Silver Bowl on top of 3rd Island.

I didn’t know that. Nana just told me about it. That explains all the mystery.

The water comes into the Bottomless Silver Bowl and then flows down in the streams and splashes over the waterfalls. The Lady on top of 3rd Island is one of the Water Keepers.

MYSTERIES OF THE 3rd ISLAND.

The Water Keepers never wear shoes and they don’t wear many clothes either. Wisteria is a little Water Keeper. She only ever drinks the Water from the 3rd Island and her hair is shiny and smells of glinting crystals. Her skin is soft and doesn’t have one mark on it. Wisteria only eats Watermelon and she ONLY drinks the Water. Her best friends are the Water People and the Water Beings. Wisteria can stay underwater for 5 1/2 hours at a time.

The Scientists go quite mad, looking for the Sirens.

Sometimes, Scientists decide to visit the 3rd Island because they want to study it. Scientists always want to wear a lot of clothes and they do like to argue. Nobody on 3rd Island is very keen on clothes or arguing so they don’t much like Scientists coming to visit. If the Scientists try to get a boat to take them to 3rd Island, the Skipper on the Boat takes them straight to False Rock Island which is of no interest to anyone. Its not even a real Island. If the Scientists try to sail to 3rd by themselves, then they are in for a bit of a shock. The 3 Sirens sit on False Rock Island and when they see Scientists coming, they begin to sing the songs of the Sirens and next thing you know, the Scientists have gone half mad and are running round all over the False Rock looking for the Sirens. They never find them The Sirens laugh and head straight home.

TRIPLE BAY NO 2: THE SEAFARING LADS

Triple Bay is where the ships come in from the oceans and the seas.

The 5 Seafaring Lads spent most days down at the edge of the Bay. They never wore shoes. The 5 Seafaring Lads waited for the ships and boats to come in.

They liked to listen to the tales of the sea.

They liked to see the things that the ships brought in.

They liked to watch them loading up and sailing away.

The 5 Seafaring Lads simply loved the water and the boats.

One day, they disappeared.

We think that they went on one of the ships but no news was heard of them until the postcards began to arrive from all over Triflora.

The postcards came on ships and boats.

The  Birds flew in with postcards.

Fairies and Mermaids and all manner of Beings brought Postcards to Poppy’s Place and Poppy pinned some of them to the Noticeboard and kept hundreds of them in a big box so that People could look at them

This is the address on all of the postcards.

Nobody knew that the 5 Lads could even write. They had never been to the Village School. Nobody had ever seen them with a book or a pen or paper. Nobody had even seen them use a mobile phone or a computer. But the Lads DO know how to send postcards. Somehow.

And they do write very interesting descriptions of their travels.

TRIPLE BAY.

The Village is close to the Triple Bay. Little creeks and rivers and streams bring water into Triple Bay and the 3 islands are out across the water.

The ferries sail from Triple Bay to Cat and Fiddle Island and Mad O’Brian keeps his boat here when he is in the Village.

Triple Bay is home to 29,328 kinds of birds.

Triple Bay is where the Ships and Boats sail in.

THE REST OF AN ORDINARY DAY WITH NANA.

After her morning on the Rooftop, Nana goes down to Poppy’s Place for lunch with her Girls. Rose and Poppy and Saffron meet her there on every ordinary day.

The Mummas and Daddas cook the lunch and a good time is had by all. Poppy’s Place is one friendly place.

Then Nana heads out for the Afternoon. Sometimes she visits her friends. Sometimes she goes swimming. Nana loves swimming and she loves Boats. Nana does NOT like shopping. That’s why she wears the same clothes almost every day. A big black skirt. A big black top. Her Hat and her Boots.

Late in the Afternoon she has a dreaming sleep and then she goes down to the Tower Dining Room for Dinner with the Beings who live in the Tower.

And at Night, well, Nana does a lot of thinking at Night. She goes up to her rooms and does her thinking.

Nana likes her ordinary days – but most days are not ORDINARY at all !

BACK AT NANA’S ON AN ORDINARY DAY

CHILDREN ONLY

The first thing Nana does when she is awake it to go across to that window and listen carefully. She makes sure that there is some music playing someplace in Triflora so that Trouble doesn’t get a foot into the Day. Trouble is allergic to Music.

The second thing she does when she wakes up is to listen for the sound she loves. The Children. The Children live on the 2nd floor from the Top of the Tower. Right underneath Nana.

These are the Children who will always be Children. The Children who will not grow up. The 2nd Floor from the Top of the Tower is their home. They can come and go. They can fly out the windows. Its an ENORMOUS floor. The Children take care of themselves on the 2nd Floor from the Top because some of them have been alive for a very long time and know just what to do.

The 2nd Floor from the Top is a wonderful Place. Nobody on the 2nd Floor thinks that Children need to be treated like babies all the time.

The 2nd Floor Children play all over Triflora in the daytime and at night they all come home and Nana and the Spiders weave a protection all round the 2nd Floor from the Top.

Sometimes, the Children have overnight guests. The Guests are safe there in the Tower – all night long.

Just yesterday, a strange little fellow was washed up on the rocks at the back of the Tower. He had tiny wings and a pointed face. Every big person scared him and he started to tremble and shake.

Only the Children could calm him down. He wouldn’t even let Jenny Wren near him.

The Children took him home for the Night. They fed him on Honey and sweet apple cider and wrapped him in blankets of Spider Silk.  He hasn’t spoken one word but when they woke this morning, he was sitting on the windowsill and singing a strange and beautiful song that smelled of the Perfumed Sea.

The Minders live on the Ground Floor of the Tower. Nana has rather a lot of Minders but they don’t all stay in the Tower at the same time. Loony Len plays the Lute. He sits just inside the Front Door, playing his Lute or drinking soup. Loony Len does not look like a Minder. He looks like a Baddie and he talks like a Loony. He wears a pointy hat with a very long feather in it and the tightest pants in all Triflora.

Loony Len is one of the best of the Door Minders. He notices all the details of the Beings who come in the Front Door.  So – when Legless Les came a-knocking, Loony Les was watching him closely. Poor Legless Les. He had a skinny black cat with him. EVERYONE knows that Nana will NOT have Cats in the Tower except on Party Day. Les tried to trick Loony into getting drunk but Loony is not someone you can trick. There is no way he is letting Legless Les into the Tower.

Nana spends most of her morning up in her Rooms. With eyes as old and wise as hers, she can watch the Parade passing a very long way away. In the Mornings, Nana has a very hot bath and dresses in her black dress and boots. Then she sits and waits on the Rooftop for her Gatherers to bring her all the News. The Gatherers do NOT come through the Front Door. Each Gatherer has a special way of getting into the Tower.

Young Caperlee gathers the news from the Mountains.

Young Caperlee leaps so far that he plain bounces from the nearest Mountain Top straight onto Nana’s rooftop even with a baby goat over his shoulders. 

As soon as Nana sees that Baby Goat she sends them down to the 4th Floor.

THE LEAST, THE LONELY AND THE LOST. THE SICK THE SAD AND THE SORROWFUL go to the 4th Floor.

Young Terrence is in charge of the 4th Floor. His ego is pretty big  and he thinks he is extremely important. He even wears a Crown. The thing is – his heart is as big as his EGO and his Brain is mighty big as well.

Terrence knows just what to do for THE LEAST, THE LONELY AND THE LOST. THE SICK THE SAD AND THE SORROWFUL.

He knows just what to do for a little mountain Goat.

BACK IN NANA’S TOWER

An ordinary day in Nana’s Tower.

She gets up when the Sun begins to smile across the edge of Triflora. Nana is very fond of windows and there are windows all round her bedroom.

As soon as they see the wild, white hair at the window on the Ocean Side, the Crows fly on down and wake the chooks and the chickens and especially the Rooster. Nana is a Bird Woman and she likes to hear them when she first wakes up.

She doesn’t know that they all get up and sing and chirrup and cock-a-doodle-do just for her.

“Morning, Birds.”

Nana has one cup of white tea from the Peak of the Mountains of the Lotus for breakfast.  EVERY morning.

Nana has one bagel with her tea. EVERY morning.

Except for that morning when Morton got to her bagel before anyone could stop him. That was NOT a happy start to a day.

As soon as he hears Nana moving about in her room, Wallace comes knocking. Nana is very fond of Wallace but she is definitely NOT fond of early morning visits. She likes to have time to get her head together and she can’t do that with Wallace there.

Wallace tries to get in EVERY morning and EVERY morning, Nana ignores him.

Every morning, Wallace gives up and goes off to Wizzy’s Tower where he knows he will be asked in and given a most delicious breakfast.

Wallace wonders why he still likes Nana – but he does!

The frogs and the birds have nothing to worry about. They are welcome at Nana’s anytime at all. As soon as they hear that she is up and about, they come a-visiting. 

The frogs and the birds bring all the news from the Village.

Ordinary days in Nana’s Tower are very good days. She sprinkles bird seed on the windowsills and knows just how to make a frog happy.

There is always a pond at Nana’s Tower. She knows that Frogs like to have water close at hand.

 

Almost every morning, Melrose and McMahon, turn up for a game of Duck Tennis. They like to stay in shape and they don’t look bad for Ducks of their Age. Nana’s Tower is the only place they can play without shoes on. The Tower has storey upon storey upon storey. Each storey has room beside room beside room. It’s the 2nd Floor that Melrose and McMahon visit. 4th room along.  The sign on the door says ;

NANA’s Tower looks pretty plain from the Outside. Just a stone tower with some windows and a little sign over the front doorway.

The sign says “ nana”.

Inside the Tower does not look plain at all. If you have won a place in Nana’s heart and you can find the doorway with the little “nana” sign AND you can get past her Minders – then you can come right inside and see what a wonderful Tower it really is.

Peter Pig is one of Casey’s Pigs.  As you know Casey is really Cassandra, the Bassi Plu of Triflora. She can see the future and the Pink Flying Pigs are her most especial helpers. Peter thinks of himself as a Spy and goes to great lengths not to be seen. Nobody wants to tell him that a pink pig with wings still looks like a Pink Pig even when they wear raincoats and try to act thin. He sneaks into the tower and straight up to the MUD WALLOW on the 3rd Floor whenever he has a message for Nana from Bassi Plu.

A DAY IN NANA’S TOWER ROOM

I don’t much enjoy adventures anymore. I’m a Nana and I am very old. I like to sit in my Tower Room and watch the Passing Parade.  Actually, only the Flying Things pass this room. I always have Birds around me and I NEVER close the window. I like the birds to come in and feel right at home.

When I want to see the rest of the Passing Parade, I have to go downstairs. Wonderful things pass by there.

Some not so wonderful things pass by as well.

 

My favourite things are the little ordinary things that pass by.  Like the PostPerson. Mickey is the Post Person. She is a little busy  at times and the Post gets held up while she delivers Pizzas or counts the number of Beings in Triflora. Mickey doesn’t deliver mail to me very often. I think the Post is old-fashioned.

Today was different. I heard Mickey’s Aquavespa coming from miles off. That machine can do almost anything. It flew straight up to my window and hovered there.

Postcard for you !

Shouted Mickey and skimmed it through the open window. Off she went. That’s two postcards this week ! One from the Grunkles who are riding Mules and climbing 900 steps every day to look at ‘things’ on the other side of Triflora.

This postcard is from the SandCutters all the way over in Phoenix.   Grannie Moo says;

Brynn my seven year old granddaughter has sent you a drawing of Triflora in Phoenix and swears that she has seen it. The yellow ball is the entrance, the orange bits the mountains far away and the brown bits the dusty land.

I might not like the Mail very much but I do like postcards!

POPPY’S PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL REPORT PAGE NO 5

Now that I know Saffron is somewhere up the Creek and now that I know that just about everybody and everything is looking for her, I need to do some Detective thinking. I think I will visit with Bobby Boy. He lives just near here. Signed, Poppy.
Wait a minute! Just wait a minute! Here I am in Bobby Boy’s home Up the Creek. It’s a very pretty place BUT everything is RED and Gold and Orange. EVERYTHING. I have only met Bobby Boy at the Party for No Reason At All. I have NEVER been to his home before. I thought he was just one of the Children but more and more Little Ones are coming outside and they ALL HAVE RED HAIR just like Saffron.  Even the Old Hen and her Chickens have red feathers.  Signed, Poppy.
Hi ! Its Poppy here. As soon as I saw that this was the famous Redland and these were the  Redlander Children, I KNEW Saffron would be here someplace no matter what her first Idea was. There is no way she would leave all these children who were so much like her. I have my own red wig and when I have it on, I can think just like a Redlander! I looked around to see who might be keeping a secret and straight away I saw Mandarinea and Rougine.	Mandarinea and Rougine have a secret but Rougine is not very good at keeping secrets.
Mumma Blaize asks Rougine about Saffron. Rougine says; “ Saffron was going to visit her friends in Unkya but now that she has found Redlands, she is staying here with US ! “	Redlanders are VERY good children but they DO get Ideas and they DO find life very in-ter-est-ing and that gets them into difficulties sometimes ! Redlanders LOVE adventure and this can get them into difficulties. I think I am getting very close to Saffron now. We think she is a bit young for the Secrets of Redlands but it looks like she has found her own way to the Crimson Sea. Signed. Poppy.
Saffron, the Lobster and Redland Roger  at the edge of the Crimson Sea with Sun rising.	You see – all Redlanders have Hidden Powers.  That’s why Saffron has always loved playing at the edge of the Water and why the Shell is blown when she is in Difficulty. Redlanders are just like Ordinary Children except for their bright red hair. But when they touch the waters of the Crimson Sea at the edge of Redlands, they become Mer People. When they touch the Land of Redland, they become children again.  Signed. Poppy.
Ah well. She is only a little girl but we can look after her ! And I have the red wig that the Redlanders gave me at the Party. Saffron was very happy to see me and she told me about all her interesting adventures. Now that we know where Redlands is, we can come and visit anytime. Redlanders sure know how to have Fun. No wonder Mumma Kate has red hair – most of the time. I think Saffron and I had best go home to the Village now. Its been a BIG day. Case Closed. Signing off, Poppy. ( Chief of Detectives.)

So that was the day that Saffron met the other Redlanders. The Ferry People sent a big sailboat to take Poppy and Saf home to the Village. It really was an adventure.

Mumma Kate said that Saffron could have got into real trouble out there by herself but Saf said

That’s ridiculous! I am fine !

And indeed, she usually is JUST FINE.

POPPY’S CONFIDENTIAL REPORT PAGE 3.

Young Mitchell carries a large sea shell with him. While we were standing there talking about the Girls, he put the shell to his mouth and blew a strange sound with it. It went like this: It seems that the Call of the Conch Shell tells all the  Water Beings that something important is happening.  Very soon, Boats and People started to arrive at the Ferry Jetty.  Mad O’Brian says that Saffron and Ferry Rose are NOT on Mad Island and I am beginning to get rather worried. Signed, Poppy.	Poppa Mitchell came sailing in with Millicent Mitchell. “Don’t you worry! Our sails are Radar Sails! They will take us straight to Ferry Rose and her boat.  We keep a close sail on our Ferry Children.”
Dadda Mitchell is out in his rowing boat with Middle Mitchell. Middle Mitchell is Ferry Rose’s twin brother and if anyone can find her, Ferry Middle Mitchell is the one.  He does not even need a Radar Sail to tell him which way to go. Signed, Poppy.	Every boat of the Ferry People is out on the water and Messages have been sent to the Seashellians and the Mer People and all the Beings of the Creek and River  and Ocean. Nobody seemed to worry very much until I told them that Saffron had had an Idea. Now they are ALL acting pretty crazy and rather desperate. Perhaps the Ferry People understand just how powerful an Idea can be – especially when Saffron has it. Signed, Poppy.
	Well! Look at this ! Four children in one rowing boat and all dressed up in their very best clothes and one of them looks just like Ferry Rose ! It IS Ferry Rose!  Let’s see what she has to say ! “ Hello! Are you looking for Saffron? She has gone to visit the 3 Girls at the Unkya Doorway. I rowed her up the Creek and she was looking for someone to show her the way to Unkya. “

Well, the conch shell has been sounded and the whole of Triflora knows there is an emergency. Young Mitchell can send out a new message while I get some rest. Then I will be following that Saffron once again.

Ev is our next new Member. He is a wonderful person to have in Triflora. He can paddle any kind of canoe or Kayak and know ALL the magic lagoons and rivers. He is also in charge of Nana’s special vehicle, Alfie. He polishes it and keeps it running perfectly.

Ev is kind and clever and Trilfora is very happy to have him come and live there.
