MUSIC IN TRIFLORA

Music is, of course, a very important thing. When the Music stops, TERRIBLE things happen.

I don’t quite know what the TERRIBLE things are because the Music has NEVER stopped. There’s always some music, someplace in Triflora.

When a Musician dies in the World Uptop, the doors of Triflora open wide and the Muso ( that’s what a dead Musician is called). The Muso goes straight into Triflora and can stay there forevermore.

The Musos play music and sing songs and all the people and the creatures play music and sing songs

Even the trees and rocks and stones  and hills and flowers and ………….. well just about ALL of Triflora plays music and sings songs.

Aqualineas.

But we have been told that if ever the Music stops, ALL of the Music, then the Evil thing that is down in the Underwater Cave will have enough power to come out and really cause trouble.  Aqualineas, with the sparking eyes, told us that. The Evil Thing  thinks that Aqualineas works for her but he comes up from the deep, dark cave and tells Nerissa Ellen Marina about everything that’s happening down there and Nerissa Ellen Marina tells the rest of us. She lives in the Well and half of her house is in the water and the other half is on the land and it doesn’t bother her at all because she can live on land or in water.

SOME OF THE TRIFLORA MUSIC MAKERS.

Angels are well known for their singing. They sing most often in choirs.	Lilo ( Lilli Pilli /Daisy Dojigger) SPECIAL POWERS: Fiddlin up a storm on her violin.. BEST QUALITY: Spreading sunshine.. WORST HABIT: Sometimes doesn’t know when to stop.Lilli Pilli thinks that not knowing how to stop is a bad habit BUT I think it might turn out to be a very good habit.
We don’t get a lot of kittens down here in the Garden. Kittens seems to like it better in the World Uptop. They do, however, LOVE our music and lots of them have special headphones that bring our Triflora Music straight to their ears.	We do get a few deadbeats hanging round with nothing to do but listen to the Musicians. They can be a problem because they like to sing along and rattle their bones. They think its music they’re making but I am not sure about that.
Remember the Evil Thing that dwells in the Cave at the bottom of the Ocean and never ever tell the Music to stop – no matter how tempted you are.	Play Mustang Sally!

THE WAYS OF TRIFLORA

DRAGONS. Rose is the one who knows all about Dragons. She told me that when two dragons meet, they STOP, RUB FOREHEADS and then WALK ON.  They rub foreheads to show that they are not going to breathe fire on one another.

You can try it if you want. Just be a little careful. A blast of flame from a dragon can do some real damage.

You are quite likely to meet a dragon at any time, in any place in Triflora but Penguins like to stay down at Penguin Cove.

ANOTHER ORDINARY DAY IN TRIFLORA

Come with me and we will take a wander around. Two of the friendliest birds in Triflora are Melodie and Maloney. They live on the Lake of M. Its a murmuring, mumbling lake.  They sail about all day long and mumble and moan to everyone they meet. Its probably a good thing to be friendly – but Melodie and Maloney are just a little TOO friendly. Especially since they start EVERY sentence with a long Mmmmmmmm.

So let’s hurry past and see what’s next.

On a little hill just past the Lake of M, is the Triflora Witches’ Retirement Home. Witches, in general, prefer to live alone but they DO get VERY VERY old. A witch cannot go and live in the Retirement Home until she is at least 294 years old.

I suppose you think that the Retirement Home is a peaceful place but its actually rather dangerous and extremely strange. You see – the Old Witches can get themselves quite mixed up and they cast some very peculiar spells. That’s why the wall are so wide and high. They need to be high because some of the Old Witches can still fly their broomsticks and they like to take off and cast spells all over the place.

It’s not easy to keep an Old Witch locked up. Not even a sign like this will work for long and the Wizards put a lot of magic and a lot of effort into  keeping the Witches quiet.

Don’t walk too close to the high and wide walls unless you would like to be touched by some very odd Magic.

JUST ANOTHER DAY IN TRIFLORA

Things are quiet in Triflora today. With Nana and Izzy back and the 3 Girls on the Inside its just another ordinary day.

The 2 teams of Protectors are riding around all over the Garden. They make sure that it stays an ORDINARY DAY.

Even Jesterman looks like his normal Self.

Calm down, Jesterman ! It’s not THAT funny.

CASSANDRA, PROPHETESS OF DOOM has returned to her dwelling near the sea in Newcastle. She spent her time in Triflora up in Nana’s Tower Room, looking out and seeing the things that only she can see.

Back in Newcastle, she has made many magic ceramic things for the Secret Garden. The most important are these three things. When a Girl holds her own Ceramic and whispers her own magic name – well – anything could happen.

TROUBLE IN TRIFLORA : PART 4

LOVE is a very good thing in times of trouble. We all know that.

Another very good thing in times of trouble is TOUGH FRIENDS.

And there IS trouble in Triflora. Deep in one of the underwater caves, something is hissing and hating. Its still small. Its still down there in the Dark but its getting bigger and its getting ready to come out.

Nana and the 3 Girls came back into the Garden only just in time but the thing in the cave

WILL decide pretty soon to cause some real TROUBLE.

The good news is this – while everyone was locked out of Triflora – some of the 3 Girls’ tough friends came looking to see what was going on.

As soon as the 3 girls whispered TRIFLORA – just as they has been taught, ALL the doors opened and in they went.

Can you guess what the BIGGEST trouble in Triflora was?

Of Course. You are right ! The 3 girls missed one another. Nothing seemed to work quite the way it was meant to work when they were all apart. Now that Nana is back from the Purple Haze Retirement Village, the 3 Girls can visit anytime they want.

TROUBLE IN TRIFLORA

Well, Now this is a bit of a surprise.

The Rose has been trying to get into the Fairy Garden ALL SUMMER LONG.

The Poppy has been trying to get into the Fairy Garden ALL SUMMER LONG.

Saffron has been trying to get into the Fairy Garden ALL SUMMER LONG.

AND THEY HAVE HAD NO LUCK AT ALL.

NOW we know why !

Izzy and Nana have taken a long holiday !

All of Nana’s Friends have been worried !

They could NOT find Nana anywhere and all the doors into the Garden were locked with the One Way Locks. People and things can come OUT but nothing can come in through any of the doors.  Only Nana can take that Lock off.

Nana’s friends sent the Messenger birds out to look for Izzy and Nana.

But the birds could NOT find them.

In the Garden, LightMaker looks like a White Owl.	Outside the Garden, LightMaker looks just like a Tawny FrogMouth.

LightMaker , who is Nana’s very best friend , waited while the birds looked.

LightMaker waited while the Fish looked for them. LightMaker waited till everyone else and everything else had looked as hard as they could.

Then the Light Maker sat up on the branch of the Messenger Tree and said, very softly;

“I SHALL GO AND FIND THEM, MYSELF “

LightMaker called Nana’s secret name and flew over the World.

Nana could always hear LightMaker calling that Secret Name, but this time she did not answer at all.

LightMaker was beginning to worry and LightMaker was NOT one to worry.

“I SHALL CALL HER NAME JUST ONE MORE TIME.”

LightMaker flew down to a tall tree where birds were having their breakfast and laughing and talking and flying about. She took a seat on a low branch and was about to call out when she heard the birds talking about the Old Man and the Old Lady who gave them their breakfast. LightMaker listened VERY carefully. It sounded  like Izzy and it sounded like Nana. LightMaker lay close against the branch and was almost invisible – watching and waiting.

What a shock ! Izzy and Nana had decided to take a VERY long holiday !

Light Maker was very shocked and Light Maker was NOT one to be shocked. No wonder Nana could not hear her secret name. She was too busy listening to LOUD music.

How could they take a Holiday when The Poppy and the Rose had just moved to Towamba? Didn’t they know that there was TROUBLE IN TRIFLORA?

“It’s no use saying ‘PEACE’ , Izzy”, said the Light Maker. “There is trouble in Triflora.”

 

LightMaker looked into Nana’s eyes. The Light Maker’s eyes flashed and flamed.

“Ennyl Srednas”, said the Light Maker.” It is time to come home !  The 3 Girls need you. There is TROUBLE IN TRIFLORA.”

	They also do some strange things and sometimes they are not even POLITE.
FRED: Fred sits and rocks outside Nana’s door at the bottom of her stone tower.
	The secret is this. You can TRUST Nana’s friends.
STARSHINE: Nana’s cleaning lady and housekeeper.
	Even if they look pretty UGLY.
NUNKLE : Nana’s repair man.
	Even if they seem rather cranky and even a bit rude.

CASEY : PROPHETESS OF DOOM

I won’t tell you much about Casey, tonight. I shall just tell you that you will see some rather fine Pigs and Piglets down in Triflora. Some of them are Flying Pigs. Some of them are Walking Pigs.  They are all VERY fine pigs and they are ALL messengers for Casey.

Casey has special powers. She can tell you what is going to happen IN THE FUTURE.

That’s what the word PROPHETESS means.

You might need her some day. I shall tell you more about her later. In the meantime, look out for those pigs !

MERMAIDS AND MORE

As you know, there is a deep well in Triflora. But that is not the only water. There are rivers and creeks and oceans and lakes.  Triflora would not be right without the Water and all the Water Creatures and Folk.

Nana would NEVER go to the Garden unless there was somewhere to swim. EVERYONE knows that !

Whenever someone is sick or gets hurt, Nana says : “ Throw them in the salt water” or “Take them to the Never Never River. That will fix them.”

Nana didn’t care whether it was Winter or Summer. She was always wanting to throw Little People in the Water and the Never Never River is FREEZING. Funny thing is, most times they come out of the water feeling just fine. Rashes disappear and coughs go away and very snotty noses are as good as new in no time at all.

Plenty of water means that there are also plenty of Mermaids.  ALL of Nana’s Family can swim and ALL of Nana’s family can change into Mer People when they wish. Everyone in Nana’s Family has a Mer Name. Just click on the links below to find out more about the Mermaids and the Mermen.

Tonight’s secret is : Jo and Kate have already been to the Triflora Seas and Jo and Kate have their Mermaid Names already. They went down into the Garden when they were little girls but when they grew BIG, they forgot all about it ! I will show you their pictures and tell you their names. Perhaps if you call them by their Mermaid names, now and then, they will remember. Until they DO remember the Secret Garden and the Secret Word and their own Mermaid Names, they will not be able to get through ANY of the Entrances again.		A friendly variety, fond of children, often seen playing with swimmers in the shallows, though one should always exercise caution due to its unpredictable nature. Note: A solitary variety that prefers to meet others of its kind only rarely. Happiest wandering the oceans alone.

WHITE BIRDS

WHITE BIRDS

When there is a message to be sent to the world Up There, the Triflora Birds are most often the ones to carry them.

IN general, the people Up There, just think to themselves;

“ Oh, there’s a bird !” or “I wonder what all those birds are doing.”

They don’t know that SOME of the birds were only as big as a fingernail before they came out of the Garden a few minutes before. The People Up There don’t know that the Birds have had their molecules whirled and swirled till they are as big as any other bird.

Just the other day, Nana was sitting in her Cottage and about 125 white birds were flying around the Paddock.

“Hmmm.” she thought. “ I wonder what they are doing. “

The next thing she knew – a very big pelican landed right in her front yard.

“ It looks like I had best be going down to Triflora”, said Nana to herself.

“125 white birds and 1 HUGE pelican. I think that’s a message for me.”

“AND YOU DON’T NEED TO SHOUT ! “  said Nana to the Birds.

The very next morning, Nana went to visit Saffron and her Mother. Saffron had another sore foot and noone could understand why.

But Nana knew. And Rose and Poppy knew. Saffron was MUCH better at flying than she was at walking.

She DID like walking. She liked it a lot. She liked her shoes and she liked to talk to people in the street – but she LOVED flying.  She was very little and she wasn’t quite used to the World Up There.

Nana and Saffron sat on the back steps and threw bread onto the apple mint lawn to see what the birds were trying to tell them. Some little birds came along. Some of them even had yellow feathers that shone in the sunlight. But none of them were messenger birds from Triflora. They threw some more bread and one of Saffron’s throws went for a long, long way.

“Aha!” said Nana,. “ Look ! There is the messenger bird”. And a big white bird came sailing down, caught the bread and flew over the house like an eagle. Round and round in circles it went and then it flew right down to Saffy’s magical entrance to the garden.

It really was time for another visit to TRIFLORA. The big white bird waited for them, because, as you know, it takes 3 people to whisper the word TRIFLORA – at the same time – with their eyes shut and holding hands ( or claws).

Whoosh. Down they went.

“Now your foot and your leg will not hurt anymore, Saffron Lola”, said the big white bird. “There is plenty of magic down here and you can fly anytime you want to!”

(We know now that his name was Goss Hawk. Saffron’s Daddy told us that. Can you imagine how happy everyone will be when Saffron comes home and BOTH her legs are working PERFECTLY?)

I do not know why the Birds are so good at fixing people and I don’t actually care. What I know is that the Triflora birds are the BEST messengers and the BEST doctors and the BEST nurses I have ever known.

Another secret which I haven’t told you before is this :

There is more than one Entrance to the Secret Fairy Garden.

There is one at Saffron’s place.

There is one at Nana’s Place.

There is one in Armidale. Rose and Poppy are busy hiding it very carefully with bushes and thorns and wildflowers so that noone can get in there when they move.

And there will be an entrance to the Secret Garden, someplace in Towamba on the Farm. Perhaps Grandma knows where it is. She knows a lot of magic things.

Now, the very best thing about the different Entrances is this :

In the World Up There , it is sometimes a long way to the houses of the people we love – BUT – in Triflora, we can travel all around the world in no time at all.

Perhaps I had best tell you one more secret before I go to bed. Just in case you are on your own and need to know it.  I have told you that 3 people are needed to open an Entrance. Well, that’s true but sometimes there just are NOT 3 people there. Each Member of the Secret Garden is given a mobile phone of their very own. Even people who are perhaps too young to have an ordinary mobile phone. The phones can ONLY be seen and heard by other Members of the Triflora Secret Garden Society.

Just about everyone from the Garden is happy about the Phones. They are VERY modern, indeed. It means that one person can be at one entrance and call 2 other people and if al 3 of them close their eyes and whisper TRIFLORA and hold their mobiles up to their right ear, the Entrances will open.  We LOVE technology!

The second part of the Secret is this :

The mobile phone looks like an ordinary phone to the members of the Garden but it just looks like a Butterfly to people who do not belong.

Kids cannot get into trouble just because a butterfly keeps flying up to their ears or rides around in their pockets. Can they ? They might look a little crazy talking to a butterfly – but they won’t get into any BIG trouble.

And the creatures and the people who are not very good at all – will not know any of the Secrets.

While I am thinking of it, let me tell you that when its Daytime in the World Up There ( that’s where Ordinary People live) well, that’s when its Nighttime in Triflora. Rose and Poppy and Saffron were MOST surprised on their first visit to find that it was the middle of the Night in the Secret Garden.  The Princess who looks after the Moon and the Stars is called Sondok. I shall tell you more about her later. She is very wise and extremely old although she only looks to be about 21 and a half years old. 

There isn’t much she doesn’t know about the Sky and the Night.

SHOPPING IN TRIFLORA

Before you read this  page, be sure to close your eyes and whisper TRIFLORA. There are some creatures who should never see this story and we don’t want them to know the secret password.

Okay – this is what happened. 

When Rose and Poppy and Saffron first found the entrance to the Fairy Garden. they thought that everybody in the Garden was going to be good and beautiful and kind.  I think that was because it was the lovely Lady Gilda who showed them the tiny wee entrance and the Lady Gilda is DEFINITELY good and beautiful and kind.

Rose and Poppy and Saffron had gone down through the pine cones one day in Winter to look for Wallabies. That’s when they saw a tiny wee lady with long curling golden hair. She was sitting in the middle of a HUGE pile of food and drinks.  They were rather surprised to see her and she was VERY surprised to see them.  Lady Gilda knew straight away that the three girls were GOOD and KIND and CLEVER.

The three girls could hardly believe their luck. A Fairy ! 

They looked a little more closely. No wings !  That meant that she wasn’t a Fairy.

The Girls wanted to ask about her wings – but it seemed a little rude to ask a question like that when they didn’t even know her. So they didn’t say anything at all.

The Little Lady smiled at them. She did not very often take new people through the Secret Doorway but she just knew that Rose and Poppy and Saffron would fit in PERFECTLY.  AND she had so much food to carry.

“Come with me to the Fairy Garden” , said the Lady Gilda. “ I do really need your help to carry all this food and drink. What are your names ?“

ROSE.    POPPY.   SAFFRON.

Lady Gilda was amazed and this is what she taught them:

“When we get close to the tiny doorway to the Fairy Garden, all hold hands, close your eyes and whisper – very softly – TRIFLORA, which of course means 3  flowers , just like you three girls.  Only people who know the  word TRIFLORA can pass through the tiny doorway and there MUST be 3 people or more  or the door simply won’t open. Now, pick up as much of the food as you can carry and come with me.”

As soon as the 3 girls whispered TRIFLORA at the Doorway, The Fairy Guardians  twirled them and swirled them and shivered their Molecules into Fairy Dust till they were TINY and the food and drink shimmered and glittered and smelt DELICIOUS.

That was the very first time that Rose and Poppy and Saffron went down into the Secret Garden. They did NOT know that the people of the Garden had been waiting for 22,000 years, 10 months and 16 days for 3 little girls who had the names of  3 different flowers to come one Winter’s Day and look for Wallabies.

The Little Lady Gilda smiled.  She was very happy. Never again would she have to go out of the Secret Garden to buy food from the Rats and their Gang. They didn’t want money for their food and drink. They wanted her Golden Curls. They wouldn’t let anyone else come with her and every day she had to let them run their claws through her hair and choose the curls they wanted to pay for the food and drink. They didn’t even use scissors to cut the curls. They chewed them off with their pointed teeth or sharp beaks. Every day, she had to carry piles of food and drink that were too heavy for her. The Rats and their gang had ripped off her fairy wings and when she was near them she felt very creepy indeed.

The trouble was that without the Triflora Girls, nothing in the Secret garden was growing quite rightly and there was never quite enough food or drink.  That is why Lady Gilda had to go above ground to shop with the Rats. Now that all 3 Girls had come at last, she NEVER EVER had to go shopping Up There again. Gilda knew that the Garden would have delicious fruit and gigantic vegetables and wonderful juices from the moment they whispered TRIFLORA and the Guardians let them in with all their good magic.

And even without wings, she would be happy. She might even open a shop of her own. She would never be cruel to the customers. Not ever.

When you go down into the Triflora Garden, don’t forget to look UP. I think you will be rather surprised.

The Garden has a sky of its very own with clouds and rainbows and moons and stars and suns. In fact, the Triflora Sky has all the things that OUR sky has – AND MORE.

The Triflora Heaven is almost close enough to touch and you can see the Fairy Angels very easily.  Not one Fairy Angel is as strange as the Twins. NOT ONE. 

They would NEVER snatch your gold and they ALWAYS help people. That’s just the way that Fairy Angels are.

SOME FAIRIES ARE STRANGE

Before we go into the Garden, I thought I should let you know that not ALL Fairies are quite right.

Some of them are VERY strange indeed so DO BE CAREFUL !

The Twins up above simply sit around all day and do nothing at all to help out.

They look in mirrors and blink their eyes faster than a butterfly can flap its wings. They seem to think that any gold lying about belongs to them so DO NOT leave any jewellery where they can snatch it.

It seems to me that noone else matters to them but themselves and that is just NOT RIGHT for a Fairy.

I don’t think the twins would actually hurt anybody – only the VERY WORST Fairy would actually hurt someone – but they are VERY careless about other people’s feelings.

It seems to me that the only things they care about are makeup and hair and clothes and gold.

And that is a shame because they were very sweet babies. Noone expected them to grow up and become so STRANGE.

Ev is our next new Member. He is a wonderful person to have in Triflora. He can paddle any kind of canoe or Kayak and know ALL the magic lagoons and rivers. He is also in charge of Nana’s special vehicle, Alfie. He polishes it and keeps it running perfectly.

Ev is kind and clever and Trilfora is very happy to have him come and live there.
